BlackBerry 4G PlayBook goes to Sprint’s WiMAX Network



The CES 2011 has so far been full of Android gadgets besides the only impressive non-Android tablet- Asus Eee Slate EP121.

So, it’s kind of good break when RIM announced its plans to launch a version of the BlackBerry 4G PlayBook for Sprint’s  4G network – WiMAX.  The PlayBook can use the 3G connection tethered from your BlackBerry phone via WiFi but will be completely Dependant on 4G network outside WiFi availability.

The device is almost similar in specs as previous BlackBerry Playbook:

  • 7″ WSVGA Capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1024*600 and full multi touch and gesture control support.
  • 1 GHz dual-core processor with 1GB RAM.
  • New BlackBerry Tablet OS developed by QNX, with true symmetric multiprocessing.
  • 9.7″ Thick in size.
  • Dual HD camera, a 5MP rear facing and a 3 MP front facing camera with support for 1080p video capture.
  • Support for Adobe Flash Player 10.1, Adobe Mobile AIR and HTML5.
  • HDMI Port.
  • Media Player with Rich Stereo Sound.
  • Ability to pair with BlackBerry Phones via Bluetooth.
  • Enterprise Ready and compatible with BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
  • Support for OpenGL and POSIX compliant.
  • Video playback: 1080p HD Video, H.264, MPEG, DivX, WMV.
  • Audio playback: MP3, AAC, WMA.
  • Support for Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, WiFi (802.11 a/b/g/n) and microUSB.
  • Measures 5.1″x7.6″x0.4″ (130mm x 193mm x 10mm).
  • Weighs less than a pound (approximately 0.9 lb or 400g).

The BlackBerry 4G PlayBook will be exclusively available on Sprint’s network this “Summer”.
