Flipkart starts selling Mobile Phones now

Flipkart, the popular online book store has now started retailing mobile phones as well.

So here is what it looks like:

The site is split into various sections like Featured Deals, New Arrivals, Best Sellers on Flipkart.com, Popular smartphones and Recent Devices sold on Flipkart.com etc.

And if you head over to any device page, you get a brief description/specs of the device along with any related reviews/news powered by Yahoo! News and similiar mobile phones to the one, you are currently viewing.

On first look, the range of devices that Flipkart is offering, is pretty impressive. It includes all the top mobile manufacturers like Nokia, Samsung, HTC etc and includes local companies like Karbonn and Micromax etc as well.

Also, when we did a price comparision of the mobile phones offered with its competitors like Infibeam.com and ebay.in, we found that the prices of the devices to be much cheaper than its competition.

However I still wonder as to why Flipkart started retailing Mobile Phones? Was it peer competition or a part of its expansion plans? What do you think?
