Is Nokia now offering free navigation on select devices?

January 21st, 2010 | View Comments | Posted in Nokia

Looks like some news have already started trickling down from the Nokia HQ today. Nokia is now offering free on device navigation to select devices from today.

Reuters stated: “Nokia used to charge for navigation packages that included turn-by-turn directions. That all goes away now. Now you can get turn-by-turn directions covering 74 countries in 46 languages as well as detailed maps for 180 countries”.

It seems like Nokia got influenced by Google who are currently offering free navigation on Android 2.0 devices like the Motorola Droid and Nexus One.

The devices which are getting the free on device navigation are Nokia N97 Mini, Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition, Nokia E52, Nokia E55, Nokia E72, Nokia 5230, Nokia 6710 Navigator, Nokia 6730 classic and Nokia X6 with support for more devices rolling out soon.

Well, I think, this is a brilliant move from Nokia to counterattack all the Android Devices and other portable GPS systems such as Tom Tom etc. But we hope that this is not the only “Big” News thats coming from Nokia Event today. What say?
