The Mobile advertising war just got more interesting. Yesterday, Opera acquired California based Mobile ad network, AdMarvel. As for AdMarvel, based in California, is a startup firm running a mobile advertising ecosystem with service offerings including mobile web, WAP, SMS and in application advertising.

We have already seen tremendous growth in the Mobile industry. With dozens of Smartphone’s releasing every month, this market is never going to come down of its exponential growth chart, at least in near future until some new technology takes over. And if numbers speak, then we are insured at least till 2014.

Just a month back or so Apple  acquired mobile advertising firm Quattro Wireless for somewhere $250m and $275m. A month ago, Google acquired Admob for whooping $750m. Oh Btw, Opera acquired AdMarvel for $8m in cash and the promise of a further $15m if targets are met.

Back when Opera released its statics till November 2009, it said around 41.7 million users used Opera Mini to browse the web.  Now that’s amazing statics. Even though Opera holds around only 2% shares on its desktop browser, it has a strong presence in the mobile market. When Google bought AdMob, we knew about the mobile war and now that Google has launched its own handset, the Nexus One it’s just getting intense. Apple is already in talk with Microsoft to replace Google search with Microsofts Bing. Apple sold 6.1 million original iPhone units over five quarters. Now consider Apple cashing on them using their ad network versus the market that Opera can cash on with its Opera Mini which has been installed on Millions of handsets including Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Blackberry, Samsung and more. It’s definitely going to be more than Apple or Google could. Opera has got the quantity which they could cash on if used wisely.
