Panasonic to launch Eluga in Europe this spring

After hibernating from the international market for five years, Panasonic is back with a bang and will unveil its new smartphone, the Panasonic Eluga at a press conference in Hamburg today. The Japanese multinational seems to be following the trend of its rival, Fujitsu and plans to launch its smartphone initially in Europe and is looking at expanding to the US, China and the rest of Asia shortly.

The phone is expected to woo the consumer market with excellent exterior dimensions. This device is merely 7.8mm thin and weighs only 103 grams. Panasonic claims that this will be the first dustproof and waterproof smartphone featuring an ultra-slim D-shaped design. It is speculated that the Eluga will have a 4.3-inch OLED display with qHD resolution. The phone will also include NFC technology. Other internal specifications such as what processor it is equipped with or which camera it will use is still unknown. Similarly it is uncertain as to which version of Android it will run on.

Panasonic has high hopes and plans on pushing 1.5 million units in Europe this year and 15 million overseas by 2015. This phone will enable the consumers to transfer information instantly to the Panasonics televisions. The television and the phone can also be linked to use the internet using Panasonic’s ‘swipe’ Smart Viera app.

With its expected launch this spring, we will soon know whether this phone climbs the ladder of success and how it will affect the smartphone market.
